A this section is not being used, thought I would repost the daily emails I have been sending out to my team, so that you can see, everyone has problems, but with teamwork they can be overcome!
Hi All

Responsible for .........................(fill in the gap)
(and if you need me I will be the one drinking coffee somewhere!)
of course each of you will have your own team, we have volunteers from St
Francis School and Sainsbury's and a group from D of E, so everyone should be
able to call on reserves if needed.
Number of runners signed up is in line with last time, which is good news
because there are more local event runs in the County than in 2006
The BBC Radio Lincolnshire will be covering the event, not quite sure how, if
its the bus or a roving reporter.
Many of the large employers in the city have had Posters to be displayed, (
except Morrisions who declined)
Two pallet loads of equipment , goodie bags, signs, tape, water, arranged to be
delivered and stored at Sainsbury's. Next week.
Risk Assements have been written and checked.
Tombola prizes sourced,
Total Fitness will provide a 'fun' warm up session before both runs.
Ok that's enough for today
Its important that if you have a problem you share it with the group, as the
aim is not only to raise a lot of money but also to have FUN!
Derek
The Race is Run
Hi All
A very very big THANK YOU for the effort and the result that was achieved today.
As promised the weather, after a very wet night and early morning , behaved it self by giving the first wave a 'dry' mile, (if not underfoot)
Too many to thank, but special mention to the Boys Brigade team for standing in the bitter cold for three hours directing traffic, the girls on the registration desk, coping with the many entrants and to the ground staff who prepared the track and went about their job with a smile and a willingness to help.
Our Numbers were slightly down from last time, the 'turn up on the day' runners stayed away but we still had the largest numbers, doing a local event, in the County
One final thought, if I suggest doing this again in two years time, someone talk me out of it!
Derek
Its Tomorrow
Hi All
Well its tomorrow, I have delvivered to the school, a thousand bottles of water and most of the tombola prizes. Then it was up to Radio Lincolnshire for an 'on line' chat with Sue Taylor, getting quite used to chatting up loverly ladies! ;-)
Have just checked the weather for tomorrow, now I know some of you are concered, too much washing and blow drying of the track, well it will get a final hose down tonight, but even before I plan to arrive on site, it will stop and we will have a dry day, honest, might be a bit 'fresh' but hey, lets blow away the cobwebs with a quick run!
If any of you need to contact me urgrently ring 01522 ****** and I will get back to you when I return, as I am off putting up the road signs .
Tomorrow when you get to the school, follow the sport relief info signs to the rear of the school, you will see a large banner at the far side of the car park, thats the site of the sports Hall , I will be on site from 8:30.
Derek,
Now at last looking forward to tomorrow, what has not been done, will not get done!
Two Dys to go
Today the School tried out the Sport Relief Mile, and found out ,,,it was a mile
long!
Not a lot of news, apart from a phone call from Radio Lincolnshire confirming
the their top presenter 'Rod Whiting' will be with us for the first run on
Sunday, should we ask him to start the run?
I have ordered a number of Helium balloons for the start / Finish lines.
Thought you might like to know that Total Fitness challenged Sainsbury's Local
Branch to a number of fitness head to heads, I was only there for the first
two, (one an hour, throughout the day, treadmill, bike and rowing)
First two were on the treadmill, who could do the fastest mile, well I assume
that Total Fitness sent their best team, We could only put forward the young
bloke who worked on the BWS section, no contest :-(
Total Fitness went first, a mile in 7 min's 23 sec's, from a very nice lady,
then it was Sainsbury's turn,
Except we failed to mention, Steve is the under 21 County champion at 800m, his
time 6mins 3 sec's.
And the second head to head was again won by the supermarket!
2-0 to the baked bean sellers :-)
Derek ...... see you on Sunday
Three Days to go
Well the day started very busy, phone did not stop ringing this morning. Radio
Lincolnshire phoned and wanted me to do a Sport Relief interview on Saturday,
and within an hour had another call from them asking for an interview tomorrow
morning, got a feeling the left hand is not communicating with the right!.
Then it would seem that the lamp irons had not been delivered. Lamp Irons for
those of us not in the construction trade are lengths of steel with a curly bit
on top, about five foot long, they are used to hold wire or rope up, we are
using 150 of them to mark out the bends in the sport relief mile track , using
barrier tape they work very well.
Unfortunately the firm lending them to us had mixed up the return date with the
delivery date, no good to us next Tuesday!
But a very helpful man arranged a speedy delivery.
Our Tombola prizes have been added to with a gift of a 'four man tent' from
Lincolnshire2012.com and that's added to the sports equipment from 'Fitness
First' the local gym,
Sport Relief T/shirts and 'Rodgers' mean that everyone will win a prize.
Arranging the delivery of 100 boxes of goodie bags, and 45 packs of water to
the school, have been lent a van for an hour, as its a lot to get on my bike!
:-)
Now I know everyone is watching the weather, don't worry, we might arrive on
the day with a bit of a drizzle but it WILL clear up before the first run.
Derek ....'if you can keep your head while all about you', etc etc, you don't
understand the problems coming your way!
Four days to go
Russell informs me that the School Canteen will be open, so I can get my coffee fix, hot , wet, 2 sugars, to be taken on the hour.
All signs have now been produced, total of over 100, but if you think of anything else please let me know.
Have been asked to clarify the way we are helping the multiple mile runners,
Plan A
All runners will be directed to the sports hall, there we will split them into the ones that have registered online, those who are entering on the day and those doing multiple miles.
Multiple miles runners will be given a sticky label to wear, and told that once they have completed the first lap they are to keep on the inside of the track, all other runners will be asked to keep that area free, that will allow them to filter back to the start line and proceed with their next lap, goodie bags / water therefore will be handed out on the other side of the track, so encouraging one milers to leave the finish line clear.
I have received a copy of the Insurance, and list of the runners registered so far,
Derek ...........stress levels acceptable, (must have forgotten something!)
Five Days to go
Hi All
Not a lot to report today, calm (!) before the storm.
Might have to change the car parking plan so could I know who is bringing their cars and who is sharing, as that way we can allocate 'Event Staff' places.
This slightly damp atmosphere means that the car parking must be strictly controlled, as at the school at the same time a football match and a Sunday swim all taking place.
Russell is checking if the School Canteen will be open, they properly have some posh name for it, 'La cafe del skelly' but as long as I can get my coffee fix, otherwise its the thermos flask again.
School Signs should be up by Saturday, but I will be there to give a hand if needed.
Right that's enough from me for today
Derek ....stress levels climbing!
Six Days to go!
Hi All
First thing is to put all your minds at rest, have had a few comments about the weather of the last few days, DON'T WORRY. its all been planned,
The Mile route has been getting a wash and blow dry!
Got to have it looking its best.
Now back to the real world, I took delivery today of three huge pallet loads of equipment, 1000+ Bottles of water, same of goodie bags, banners and signs. Also the 150 lamp Irons for help marking out the route, will be delivered Tues or weds.
Between Lynn and myself we have turned out all the signs required (hopefully) These will be given to the school Tuesday.
St Francis have provided a Video Camera to record the event.
Now I have sourced a number of Sport Relief T.Shirts for the Team to wear, they are in a heavy cotton, but only a limited number, first come, will get a size that might fit!. Now I will be wearing something warm under mine so now please tell me what size you would like, med/large/xl ,
Lynn and I will be wearing bright yellow, not my choice of colour but at least everyone will know who to come to if they need an instant answer on anything!.
The rest are white with Sport Relief Logo
Sorry have not got one for everyone but have done my best.
Still awaiting from some of you a list of your team's names for their Badges.
Derek, finally getting over the Rugby
7 days to go
7 days to go
Hi All
A bit more info on yesterdays action plan.
>So, as the runners arrive
All roundabouts and traffic lights within walking distance of the school will
have 'arrows' and logos pointing the way.
Banners will welcome the runners.
>They are met by Liz 'car parking team and pointed in the right direction
Signs from the road, saying, 'info' and the Sport Relief logo will show the
way, pass the wheel chair challenge, to the sports Hall.
>Signs leading to Lynn's 'Registration' team
Here we will ask if they are planning to do multiple miles, as here they will
need to have a sticky label added to their 'running number' so we can guide
them back to the beginning of the mile.
There will also be a sign giving the price for those attending on the day
>When registered the runners wait in the sports hall, where they see Ada and the
>'Tombola ' stall.
St Francis will provide the signs required, and hopefully a Camera
>Leaving the Hall for the start of the Run
Hopefully they will get a warm up from staff from Total Fitness.
Nigel will arrange a clear pathway, from 'the end of the mile' back to the
'start of the mile' also using a coloured marker tick off the miles on the
sticky label on the runners vest. He will be helped by Helen
Would all Team Leaders provide a list of names so I can provide Event Team name
Badges for all our helpers.
Derek, still upset over the rugby yesterday.
8 days to go Hi All Quiet
8 days to go
Hi
All Quiet on the sports front today, so Lynn and I have been discussing sharing
out the work of next Sunday between the teams.
So, as the runners arrive
They are met by Liz 'car parking team and pointed in the right direction
Signs leading to
Lynn's 'Registration' team who are in front of the areas of First Aid and Lost
Kids.
When registered the runners wait in the sports hall, where they see Ada and the
'Tombola ' stall.
Leaving the Hall for the start of the Run they will be passed on to Nigel whose
'mile' team is to do three things, mark up the runners who are doing the
multiple laps, handing out the goodie bags and hopefully videoing the day!
It is hoped that a couple of min's before the start of the run, and everyone is
ready, Liz 'car park team will assist Nigel , and up to that point Nigel's Team
will help Liz or wherever they are required.
That's the vague plan as Lynn and I see it, but as always open to suggestions
on improvement, so if you have an idea don't be shy , tell us
Now tomorrow I will give more details, but it is getting late and having just
watched a dreary game of rugby I plan to go to bed and dream of when England
had a great Rugby team!
Derek, not stressed at all , but looking forward to the 16th
Nine days and counting Hi
Nine days and counting
Hi All
Thanks to all those that have answered the pleas for different bits of kit, so
we have sourced a Loud Hailer and Foghorn, been told where to get the Helium
balloons and been told they are a reasonable price so might get a few and make
a bit of a show, red or blue balloons, or both?
Delivered to the school today, 42ft of banners to be seen from the road, and
some nice posters / Leaflets to create some interest at the school.
Have been promised, Hi Viz vests, and a First Aid Kit.
Mon or Tues I will get delivery of the goodie bags, Water and basic equipment,
which last time was two large pallets loads, have arranged these to be
transported to the school on the Saturday, have a van booked for 11:00.
My plans for this weekend is to produce the 'road' and 'in school' information
signs, any thoughts on this let me know.
So I think we are back on course, so not stressed at all, pass the coffee
please
Which reminds me, you will need a packed lunch for Sunday.
Hi All A positive day
Hi All
A positive day today, I have had contact from Sport Relief and numbers are
mounting, what is really interesting is that over 100 runners want to do
multiple miles, now I traveled the mile yesterday and it was a fair trip, now I
roughed it by forcing myself to be chauffeured around, so all credit to those
who are planning to run it. :-)
Based on last time I will have a number of Event Staff T- Shirts, and again
from last time I have a few Sport Relief T/Shirts, now do remember it is March
and not expecting a heat wave, so those who are asked to wear these, please
plan to have something warm underneath.
Those on Liz's car parking team will be provided with Hi Vis Marshal vests, now
those supplied are not very glamorous so will try to borrow some others from
work.
The Sport hall has the facility to have music playing so Lynn has supplied a
CD of 'stirring' Music.
We can reimburse any expenses from Money we make in the Tombola, so please, if
you need anything to make the event even better let me know,
Talking about the bringing in some money , we have 25 Sport Relief t/shirts
which retailed at £8 for adults and £6 for kids, plan to sell them on for £3
and £2, Sport Relief , 'balls', 'pins' and 'Sweatbands' did have them on sale
last time at £1 so 50p each, 'Rodgers' (don't ask what they were), all I can
say is that they went on sale for £1 and no one wanted them, so we have a
number, well about 800, which will be given away in the Tombola. And from red
nose day last year we have red noses and again 'pins' these are not much, so
again will be freely given out.
Well that's enough for today
Derek.....less stressed than yesterday.

11 days to go Hi All Plan
11 days to go
Hi All
Plan 'B'
Have had a very productive meeting this afternoon at City School with Grant and
Russell who have been thrust into the limelight when Duncan needed his
appendix removed, (some will go a long way to avoid running a mile !)
Welcome Grant and Russell to the team
I have traveled the proposed 'mile' and it is an interesting meander around the
school field, seems a long way, but it is only a mile.
Those who elect to do a three or six mile run will use the same course, we need
to think of a way to distinguish these so they have free access to continue the
run.
At the starting line Helium balloons could be flown, anyone ever bought any of
these before?
The school will be open for us to 'set up' from 8:00 Sunday morning, I plan to
be there then, and ask you all to be there by 9:30 at the latest, I plan to get
as much done before hand, but things do sometimes go wrong and we need to be
prepared, (so who was in the Boy Scouts then?)
The 'Registration / 'First Aid' / 'Lost Kids' area will be in the large sports
Hall, if, and it won't , it rains, the runners can wait in the dry, the 'Start'
is just outside.
The school has a security guard who will be on site .
Right that's enough for today
Derek.....less stressed than yesterday.
12 Days to go Hi All Well
12 Days to go
Hi All
Well the brown stuff has hit the fan, Duncan, the main man who is responsible
for the venue, has had his appendix removed late last night and he may be off
work for some time!
We wish him a speedy recovery,
I will be in contact with the school and report back on 'plan B' (whatever that
may be.)
Ok, Plan 'B'
The School is stepping into Duncan's shoes, and have organised a lot that
Duncan had volunteered for.
We still have a venue, and a marked one mile route.
Due to previous bookings, our main registration point has been moved, but the
alternative sounds fine.
The separate three mile and six mile route, has now been scrapped, and those
runners will do multiple 'laps'
-- note, need to work that out
The School's D of E group will no longer be available to help, this will cause
a problem, may need to find some more volunteers
Signs - Directions/ First Aid/ Toilets / Missing Kids etc
Signage within the school has been produced, hopefully will be displayed
Signage outside the school, has been produced needs to be displayed
Wheel chair mile, information still to be found
Sorry very scrappy daily Bulletin, I am typing this and trying to work out what
to do at the same time, so bear with me, I have a meeting at the School
tomorrow where hopefully I can bring back to you the answers
Derek,.... yesterday, slightly stressed, today, off the scale!!!!!!!!!!
Hi All The aim of the game
Hi All
The aim of the game is too raise lots of money, now last time we ran a fairly
successful raffle, but after selling lots of tickets, we drew the winning
tickets only to find that we had winners who had not put their Tel. numbers or
address on the ticket, so I spent a frustrating week getting rid of the prizes.
Well this time its going to be different, we are going to sell 'Tombola'
tickets, so that winners will be seen to take away prizes straight away, and
due to some clever forward thinking I have managed to get enough prizes so that
every ticket will win a prize! If that does not sell a ticket I don't know what
will.
With main prizes of T/shirts and Rucksacks this will hopefully be a success,
but we can always do better, do you have a contact with a local firm /
organisations who would like to donate a prize or two, (I plan to blag
something off Sainsbury's)
Remember if you never ask you will never know.
So what else do we still need to 'beg' ' borrow' or 'be given temp use of '
Tannoy System or Loud Hailer
Something to start the run, 'Pistol' 'Bull Horn'
Now if you need anything for your part of the day, please let us all know, a
problem shared is a problem passed onto others to worry about :-)
Derek ....getting ever so slightly stressed!
