15th January 2008
The Spice Girls officially launched Sport Relief 2008 today with stars including Leona Lewis, Davina McCall, Alan Shearer, James Cracknell, Tess Daly and Mark Ramprakash set to get in on the action over the coming weeks too.
The nationwide campaign will see people challenging themselves, friends, family and colleagues to do something sporty to raise cash - all culminating with The Sport Relief Weekend from Friday 14th – Sunday 16th March.
The ultimate challenge is being part of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile where hundreds of thousands of people will do 1, 3 or 6 miles at events across the entire UK on Sunday 16th March. Places are limited so find your nearest Mile and enter now
Olympic gold medal winning rower, James Cracknell will be taking the lead in inspiring the nation by undertaking a momentous challenge as he travels from England to Africa entirely under his own steam.
Alan Shearer and Adrian Chiles will also be rising to the challenge for Sport Relief when they take on a mammoth Newcastle to London cycle ride against the clock.
Whatever challenge you choose to do, make sure you wear a special pair of Sport Relief Socks while you do it - and remember £1 from every pair sold, along with all the sponsorship money you raise, will be spent by Comic Relief to change countless lives for the better both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
