Welcome! This is the place for hints and ideas on how to raise the most cash from your Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile. Whether you plan to do all your fundraising on the web or in person – or a bit of both – we’ll help you out with ideas to get the money rolling in.
When you enter the Mile we automatically set you up with a Sport Relief Giving Page.
It's the quickest and easiest way to get sponsored!
Send e-mails and texts, get tweeting, keep Facebook up-to-date - or go old-school and write a letter! Just get the word out there and ask everyone you know to sponsor you.
Add a link to your Sport Relief Giving Page at the bottom of your e-mail signature - you never know who might want to sponsor you. Get in touch with your local paper to see if they’ll help you spread the word about your Mile challenge. Post a message on your work intranet, newsletter or notice board so everyone knows what you’re doing and why, to motivate them to sponsor you.Remember our golden rule - get the word out early so you give people plenty of time to sponsor you!
- This year, we’re asking all you brilliant Milers to kick start your sponsorship by getting just five people to sponsor you £5 each! It’s the easiest way to get your sponsorship off to a flying start. Your closest family, friends and work colleagues are your best bet - they're the most likely to give generously. Or start with your boss – everyone will want to see how much they've stumped up for!
- Make sure you always have a sponsorship form to hand – at parties people are often more generous than usual!
- Leave it until after payday to remind your colleagues that you're looking for sponsors. Take your sponsorship form round the office on a Friday afternoon when people will welcome the distraction.
- Check if your workplace will match your fundraising - meaning more cash raised AND less effort for you.
- Sell space on your clothing to your sponsors. Tell everyone that your top sponsor will choose a message to go on the back of your shorts or even decide what you wear when doing your Mile.
- Tell your sponsors that if you reach your target, you’ll take your challenge up a notch – perhaps you’ll run three-legged with a friend.
- Push yourself that little bit more and run 3 or even 6 miles - you'll raise more cash that way for sure.
- Don some fancy dress or wear red for the big day - see if anyone notices your new look. Or dress down - and we're talking right down! Wear a mankini or even a tasty pair of Speedos - your friends will pay good money to see that!
- Do it differently to keep your sponsors interested - pigeon step, bounce on a space hopper or hula hoop the length of your Mile! You could even turn your Mile into a good, old-fashioned egg-and-spoon race.
- Doing the Mile with friends and family means a guaranteed great day out - so join a fundraising team or start one of your own using our online Sport Relief Giving Pages.
- Nurture your competitive streak - set up a sponsorship leader board with your friends and stick it on the fridge or the office pin board so everyone can see how you’re all doing.
- Put your money where your Mile is - make a bet with a friend that you'll raise £100 first and see who wins! You could think up a forfeit for the loser too...
Join thousands of people across the country and enter the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile - you'll raise cash to change lives, and have a great time too.
