Ready, Steady, Bake!

January 27th 2016

The Great Sport Relief Bake Off is back and four celebrities will be battling it out in the kitchen tonight to take home the title of Star Baker.

Comedian Jason Manford, Eastenders actress Maddy Hill, ex England goalkeeper, David James and businesswoman and wife of the Prime Minister, Samantha Cameron are the first bakers to enter the tent and try to impress judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

Mel Giedroyc hosts the episode which sees the celebrities put to the test with Signature and Technical challenges, as well as a Showstopper.

First up it’s the Signature Challenge and Mary and Paul ask the bakers to make 24 canapes using rough puff pastry made from scratch.

“Most of the celebrities will have been to lots and lots of parties and been given canapes,” Paul says. “But I bet they have never made them.”

While some of the bakers find the first challenge a little tricky, others breeze through, with Paul telling one of the contestants: “They are absolutely perfect.” But who could that be?

Next it’s onto the Technical challenge and the Showstopper. Who will rise to the challenge and who will crumble under the pressure?

The contestants follow one of Mary’s recipes for the Technical and she gives them some advice before they begin: “Read the recipe three times and go through it in stages carefully.”

But whose baking will impress the judges enough to take home the title of Star Baker?

Each of the celebrities are taking part in the programme to help to raise money for Sport Relief, which helps people living incredibly tough lives both in the UK and in some of the world’s poorest communities.

During the episode viewers will see Clare Balding visiting Kenya, where she meets children living on the streets who desperately need help. She visits a shelter that benefits from Sport Relief donations and helps get those children off the street.

You can watch The Great Sport Relief Bake Off on BBC One at 8.30pm.
