A team of dancers from Leeds threw some big bhangra shapes in Victoria Gardens this week to show their support for Sport Relief 2012.
The youngsters from Trishool Dance Academy in Leeds went the extra mile by staging their very own version of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile – with a Bollywood twist.
Dressed in their dance costumes, along with Sport Relief socks and deeley boppers, the five dancers raced against each other around the gardens while performing traditional Indian dance along the way. And the team treated their Bollywood Mile as a warm up to the big Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile which will be taking place in Leeds and hundreds of other locations across the UK on Sunday 25th March.
It was the two Managing Directors at Trishool Dance Academy, Sanchez Rayat and Shukti Sharma, , who encouraged their team of dancers to get involved in the Mile.
Sanchez says: "It's been great fun arranging our own version of the Mile and our dancers really got into the spirit of Sport Relief. They raced each other while also performing 'Aaja Nachle' and 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' which was fantastic. I'm encouraging them to run the Leeds Mile in March and hope lots of other people will join us on the day to make it a huge success.”
This year, over one million people are expected to take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.
