All In A Spin For Sport Relief
All In A Spin For Sport Relief
2nd Feb 2012
Earlier this week, Manchester’s own Strictly Wheelchair dance group graced the Wythenshawe Forum Hall with a fantastic display of Strictly-style ballroom moves in support of Sport Relief 2012.
Able-bodied and disabled dancers alike were dressed to the nines in their Sport Relief finery, gliding, shimmying and shaking their way across the dance floor in a bid to inspire the people of Manchester to enter the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25th March.
The Strictly Wheelchair troupe strutted their stuff, showcasing steps such as the Waltz, the Tango, the Foxtrot and the Rumba. The final flourish was a Quickstep mile, which saw the Strictly dancers hot-wheeling it across the Sport Relief finish line.
One duo, Gary Lyness and Paula Moultonare, who are the UK amateur champions in Ballroom and Latin, stole the show with their wheels and heels spinning together in perfect time as they led the other couples in the mile-long Quickstep to grease their gears for the Sport Relief Mile.
Ray Bulpitt, the Strictly Wheelchair dance teacher, said, “Today has been so much fun! We have loved bringing some Strictly Style glamour to Sport Relief - roll on the Manchester Mile!”
