Thanks to a unique fundraising initiative, now in its second year, Barclays has raised £100,000 for Sport Relief.

Over the Sport Relief Weekend, the Barclays Premier League’s top goal scorers had an added incentive to score, as Barclays pledged to donate £1,000 to Sport Relief for every goal scored and an extra £500 for every shot on target during the weekend.

This Barclays Premier League season was already a record-breaker for goal scoring - the 500-goal landmark for the season was reached in mid-December, quicker than in any other season.

And the top scorers certainly didn’t disappoint, with a total of 29 goals and 138 shots on target. Darren Bent scored a hat-trick over the weekend, making him the player who contributed the most to this impressive total.

As a result, overall, a massive £98,000 was raised for Sport Relief, which Barclays generously announced they would round up to £100,000.

Kevin Wall, managing director of Barclays said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to harness the excitement of the Barclays Premier League to raise money for Sport Relief.”

Sport Relief has already raised over £30 million to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people at home in the UK and overseas. And it’s not too late to make the world of difference – you can still donate now to change lives.
