No. 10 Downing Street Hosts Sport Relief ChallengersNo. 10 Downing Street Hosts Sport Relief Challengers

A host of Sport Relief celebrity challengers had the honour of meeting Prime Minister Gordon Brown at No. 10 Downing Street today (Tuesday 16 March) as he congratulated them on their astonishing determination to rise to the challenge in extraordinary ways for Sport Relief.

Celebrity cyclists Fearne Cotton, Miranda Hart, and Jimmy Carr, cross-channel water skier Christine Bleakley, Amazon-kayaker Helen Skelton and Six Nations cyclist Lawrence Dallaglio were all greeted by the Prime Minister and praised for the money they have so far raised for Sport Relief.

Gordon Brown said: "I am always moved and inspired when I hear about people who have gone to incredible lengths to raise money for important causes. But these celebrities haven't just inspired me - they have also inspired people across the country to get involved in Sport Relief by raising money and getting active at the same time. The amount that has been raised so far is testament to the British public’s willingness to help those living incredibly tough lives in some of the world’s poorest countries as well as here in the UK.”

Christine Bleakley triumphantly completed The Thomson Sport Relief Water Ski across the English Channel on Friday morning, enduring severe weather conditions as she fought to stay upright and complete her challenge in an outstanding 100 minutes. Lawrence Dallaglio completed a gruelling 3,000km Dallaglio Cycle Slam last week in which he rode through all of the RBS 6 Nations countries in one month. Jimmy Carr, Fearne Cotton and Miranda Hart were part of the BT Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride team, who cycled a nonstop relay from John O’Groats to Land’s End, across treacherous terrain in just four days. Helen Skelton kayaked an extraordinary 2,010 mile kayak down the Amazon River in aid of Sport Relief – in the process setting two Guinness World Records™ for the longest solo journey by kayak and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman.

All the celebrities’ heroic efforts will help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives here in the UK and in some of the world's poorest countries.

It’s not too late to get involved and rise to a challenge of your own for Sport Relief.
