Stephen’s club challengeStephen’s club challenge

Triple gold medal winning paralympian Stephen Miller will be rising to the challenge for Sport Relief later this month, by attempting to throw a club consecutively for a mile against the clock.

His challenge will take place at Gateshead Stadium on the 23rd February, and he aims to reach the one mile target in under an hour. This means he’ll need to throw at least one club a minute, with an average throw of 30 metres.

Last competitive season, Stephen’s average throw rate was 31 metres - so the challenge is going to be really tough, both physically and mentally.

Stephen said: “I wanted to really push myself and do something a bit different for Sport Relief 2010. This will definitely be one of the most difficult challenges I have ever attempted but I am ready to rise to the challenge.”

Stephen, from Northumberland, competes in field athletics including the club (javelin/hammer), discus and shot put. He has represented Great Britain for over ten years, competing in four Paralympic Games, three World Championships and two European Championships.

If, Like Stephen, you want rise to the challenge for Sport Relief, the best way to take part is to do the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 21st March. With the choice to do 1, 3 or 6 Miles and events taking place across the whole of the UK, there’s a Mile event for everyone.
