The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, is in Sierra Leone for Sport Relief to learn more about malaria and its devastating impact on communities. While there he’ll also learn how Comic Relief’s partnership with GSK is helping to take the fight against malaria to the next level.
We know that real progress is being made in the fight against malaria. In Africa, the death rate from malaria fell by 37% between 2010 and 2016. But despite this, every two minutes, a child under the age of five still dies from the disease.
In Sierra Leone, life is already unimaginably tough - only 13% of the population have access to adequate toilet facilities, one in two people live on less than $1.25 a day and more than a third of the population don’t have access to clean drinking water. On top of all of this, the entire population is at risk of malaria which remains the leading cause of death.
During his time on the ground, Joe will meet with different people to learn about how it affects their lives and the communities that they live in, from doctors and nurses to young people and parents.
